That's comfortable!

Augh! I feel like someone has their upper body wedged inside my pelvis!

Oh. Wait. That’s exactly what that is!

The baby is dropping. Not dramatically and I still have trouble catching my breath when I first lie down but I can see it in the mirror a little.

I even creeped myself out

I’m quite the arachnaphobe, so I’m not sure what I was thinking when I helped Hayley make this fairly creepy spider craft. We had done some Halloween paper crafts (pumpkin, cat, ghost) and I was inspired, but this thing really freaks me out.

Creepy crawly spider

It took almost no time or effort. It’s one ankle height nylon trimmed to size and knotted at one end, with two styrofoam balls inside for the body shape (though you could just stuff it with tissue paper whatever). Then we wrapped black and purple pipe cleaners around the middle for the legs, dabbed a bit of silvery-grey nail polish on for eyes, and attached a piece of thread to the knotted end for a bit of spider web.

Yuck.

Danger in this sector

Hayley loves “Toy Story”. Actually she loves both movies. And she just got a Buzz Lightyear action figure as a belated birthday gift. Like most toys these days, this one comes with batteries and it talks and has the little laser on the arm like the Buzz in the movies. It’s kind of annoying just because there’s no off switch or even a volume setting, so I always worry that she’ll roll over on it and set it off in the middle of the night, waking up the entire world, but she loves it so I tolerate it.

The thing is, he’s more than an action figure. He’s a “room guard”. You can play with him normally and when you press different buttons he says different phrases (I particularly like when he says, “Let’s go on a space adventure!” because Hayley almost always responds with, “No thank you, Buzz.”). However, if you push any button twice in quick succession, he’s activated as the room guard, which is kind of like having a little Buzz Lightyear security alarm. I always thought that the alarm was only set off if you pushed a button without de-activating the guard setting. I had no idea that he apparently has a tiny motion sensor.

So imagine how startled I was when I walked into the bedroom before, passed within close proximity of little Mr. Lightyear, and he suddenly shouted, “STOP! You don’t have security clearance! Please leave this sector at once! BEEP BEEP BEEP!”

I came incredibly close to peeing my pants.

It was sort of inevitable

First it was George, then it was Hayley, and now I’m feeling that scratchy nuisance at the back of my throat and dealing with sniffles. I fully expect to wake up with a stuffed up head cold.

To be fair, last time (which was only a month ago, dammit!) I was the one who caught a cold while at a doctor’s appointment and then gave it first to Hayley and then George. But at least my cold was a 24-hour thing! George is still popping cold pills. Phooey.

At least Hayley is better today. She’s still tired and sneezing but she’s not wiped out and miserable like she was yesterday.

I hope I can get a chance to do a journal entry tonight, just so I can share the picture of Hayley setting up a tea party with her Buzz Lightyear action figure. I’d do it now but I have laundry to fold, a tablecloth to change, and supper to cook.

Hayley the ant

One of Hayley’s favorite movies is “A Bug’s Life” (tied with “Toy Story 1 & 2”). She really loves the ants which isn’t surprising since she loves ants in real life too. So we did a craft the other day with a headband, pipe cleaners, styrofoam balls, and gold-colored glitter glue. Ta-da! Hayley the ant!

Sick

I’ve spent the past half hour sitting on the living room floor watching Hayley sleep on the couch. She never sleeps during the day under normal circumstances but she caught the Ebola Cold and didn’t sleep much last night. I made her some soup for lunch but she was just sitting there staring at it so I asked if she’d like to try lying on the couch for a bit. She said okay and 20 minutes later, just before 2 pm she conked out.

She’s woken up twice but went right back to sleep. Poor baby.

I know it’s just a cold and ultimately not a big deal but I still feel sad looking at her. She looks so small when she’s under the weather. I sincerely hope neither of my children ever has a serious illness because it’s heartbreaking when it’s just a cold, so how would I feel if it was worse?

George has it too, and has had it for several days. Now Hayley, and last night I had to apply heat to my aching knee which is a sure sign (along with some sniffles) that I’m about to get it too. Phooey. Like I told George though, at least we’re all getting it now instead of in November. I don’t want to be sick when I go into labor (how do you find the breath to push if you’re sick?!) and I certainly don’t want the baby to be born and immediately exposed to a cold.
