About

Well, hi there! I’m so glad you dropped by! My name is Sherry Osborne and this is my blog where I inexplicably share stories about my life with the entire Internet. I’m kind of glad that blogging has caught on in recent years; when I first started writing online (eons ago, back in 1998) this sort of thing was referred to as an online journal and there were maybe a couple of hundred of us, and everyone pretty much thought we were weird and crazy. Now everyone and her mother has a blog or at least knows what one is so people have to wait a bit longer before deciding that I am indeed weird and crazy.

Anyway.

So yes, I’m Sherry and I’ve been known to write about my husband George and our two daughters (ages 4 and 7) a great deal. I also gush about yoga lately since I started doing it almost daily in January 2010, and I like to talk about pop culture quite a bit. Other than that, you just never know what I might post here.

Family tradition

I’m 36 years old and a Canadian who currently lives in Montreal. In all honesty I would much rather live in Halifax. I am definitely an East Coast girl trapped in a land-locked area of the country. One day I really hope we will make the move. Being closer to the ocean would be very good for me.

I work from home as a professional blogger (no, not THIS blog!) and an online content writer (more info here). I am pretty much incapable of leaving home without a camera, and the odd time that I do I almost always regret it. I have done one professional photo shoot for a local gospel singer’s album cover (my husband is a musician and producer so he hooked us up after he produced the guy’s album. You can see the cover photo here. I’ve been toying with an idea for a professional photography business that I think would be a lot of fun, and very me, but I’m also a bit of a shy photographer so I’ll have to keep thinking about it.

I’m an animal loving person and currently have one totally insane cat. I don’t know what happened to her when she was younger but she doesn’t like anyone except me. From time to time she’ll let someone else pet her but not all that often. When it’s me, she’ll purr and rub back and forth against my legs. She’s so afraid of everyone and everything that she basically lives in the bathroom and refuses to come out unless no one else is at home. Her litter box and food dishes are in there, and she hangs out behind the washing machine a lot. She’s a weirdo but I love her like nobody’s business.

As much as I love cats, I’m honestly more or a dog person and very much need a dog in my life. As of this moment (August 26th, 2010) I do not have a dog, but am hoping to find a great family dog very soon. I love going for nice walks in the woods and through fields with a dog, and curling up with a fuzzy dog to watch prime time TV is an excellent evening pastime. I’ve had two dogs in my life. One was a mix of unknown origins but he really belonged to my ex, so after the relationship ended, I didn’t have a dog anymore; I still miss that little guy. The other was a Beagle who was unbelievably aggressive and territorial, and that just isn’t a good mix with young kids so she lives with a friend of a friend now. I am very eager to find my forever dog.

Aside from cats and dogs, in my 36 years of life I’ve also had hamsters, rats, goldfish, a dwarf rabbit, an iguana, and a tokay gecko. I would be a prime candidate for working or volunteering in a rescue organization or shelter, or even a pet store that only sells products (I fully support boycotting pet stores that sell animals and give tons of props to shelters and fosters) but welcomes people bringing their pets in to shop.

My causes include:

- volunteering at my daughter’s school for the Breakfast Club, originally created to make sure children from underprivileged homes don’t go hungry in the mornings (and I also volunteer for the parent committee, helping to make the school a fun place)

- sitting on the school’s governing board to help make the best decisions for the education of our kids

- supporting refugee organizations like the UNHCR and Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders

I think that’s pretty much everything. Anything else you want to ask? Please feel free to ask!
