A Baker's Dozen for the weekend

Over in LJ land there’s a meme that I love called the Baker’s Dozen. It takes place on Monday and you recap your entire weekend with twelve bullet points plus one picture. I thought maybe I should bring it over here; if you like it you can play along. No one will take the ball back and tell you to go home if you do it a day or two later.

My weekend can be summed up like this:

1. Friday afternoon was a ridiculously beautiful spring day so the second Breanna’s eyes opened post-nap, I put their jackets on and whisked them off to the park and for a stroll. We were gone for almost two hours and the only reason we came back was I had to pee. It was SO nice to be outside in the fresh air.

2. Friday night, George was out so I watched “Six Degrees” – which I am ecstatic to have back on tv, yay – and stayed up a bit too late putzing around online.

3. Breanna woke up around 3 am or so, and then proceeded to keep me up for an hour and a half. Zonk.

4. We slept in until 9 because of Breanna’s middle-of-the-night fest, George being out late, and Hayley not going to sleep until almost 11 pm. Which would have been fine except Hayley and I had to leave by 9:45 to walk up to the library for the 10:15 story time. We managed to eat quickly and luckily I had laid out all the clothes for us the night before. We were only two minutes late leaving, woo.

5. Story time was cute. There were about 20 kids aged 3-5 with various parents and two teachers who volunteer to read to the kids every second week. The theme was Easter so they read two Peter Rabbit books, did some coloring on Easter print-outs, and gave everyone a chocolate bunny to take home. It was fun. Sadly, I didn’t get to do much Mom Dating, but I did see a couple of moms who might be approachable for possible playdates in the future. One grandmother did approach me about having Hayley come to her house to do language exchanges with her French- and Spanish-speaking granddaughter and didn’t seem to understand why I would be reluctant to be picked up and taken to a house 15 minutes away by people I don’t know. Err…

6. After picking out books we came home to find out Breanna had been asking George for milk since ten minutes after we had left (we were home by noon) and that a sippy cup of cow’s milk really didn’t cut it. she wasn’t upset but she sure was thrilled to see me (and my boobs).

7. After a quick lunch and pick-up, our friend stopped by with coffee and treats from Tim Horton’s and dropped his two girls off for an afternoon playdate with Hayley and Breanna. After three hours he came back and I was completely exhausted from having four kids between six months and 7 years. How do you people with big families do it?

8. Breanna napped poorly because of the activity so she was asleep before 8. I was in bed by 10, and asleep by 10:30. Hayley and George are dorks and pulled out the hide-a-bed and watched a movie until I don’t know what time.

9. On Sunday, George made bacon and eggs for breakfast/brunch before having to go out for a bit and that is my new favorite tradition. I love breakfast but don’t particularly enjoy making breakfast food unless it only involves a toaster, so Sunday brunch works for me.

10. Hayley got taken out for lunch by the same friend. He took her and his two kids to a kid-friendly local restaurant that serves typical fast food stuff and has an indoor play structure with ball tents and slides way better than the ones at McDonalds. They were gone for about two and a half hours and had ice cream before coming back. In the meantime, I caught up on work and Breanna had a much-needed good nap.

11. We spend the rest of the day and evening putzing around, not doing much of anything in particular, even doing a lazy supper by having beans and wieners (or beans and weens as Hayley calls them).

12. Breanna crashes easily at bedtime, Hayley stays awake until almost 11 again (argh) but at least she stays in bed most of the time, George some computer stuff, and I watch “The Amazing Race” as a close to what was a great weekend.

13. Hayley and Breanna swinging at the park:

  1. I love this meme! I won’t do it this week, but I think I’ll start doing it for this weekend. That way I can plan a pic. Thanks so much!
