I have to tell you, this camera is awesome. It’s so much fun to be able to take shots I couldn’t before. I always enjoyed just taking pictures of the kids but it’s been a blast experimenting with things, especially the macro feature. Above are two of my necklaces. I never could have gotten it that crisp and clear before.
I’ve also gotten to be a total dork and am now taking an obscene number of self-portraits because I joined the 365 Days group over on Flickr. The objective is to post a self-portrait a day for a year. I did miss a couple of days over the holidays but I’m up to 25 shots so far. I’m trying to avoid too many straight old “here’s my face tilted slightly and a half-smile” slef-portraits because that would get boring (though I do have a couple and haven’t written them off). The challenge, really, is to try to come up with new ideas. It helps that there are many mini-challenges on the discussion section of the group where you can get good inspiration for the self-portraits.
My own 365 Days set is right here if you have some sort of interest in seeing them. Right now a bunch of us are doing a week-long challenge to photograph an interpretation of each of the Seven Deadly Sins. Naturally I did Sloth first (hee) and today I did Greed. It’s entertaining me. And if you’re taking part in 365 Days too, let me know!
I actually started using Flickr just to share a few photos from time to time. Then I realized it was silly for me to overload my hosting account by continuing to upload images here and taking up all kinds of space when I could just post them on Flick and then put them on my blog. But now I’ve gotten really interested in a lot of the different groups over there, especially ones where you can get feedback from people.
If I had realized how much of a camera fanatic I would become, I would have taken Photography back in college!

You just made me weep from my broken camera. Weep.
If you ever have 8-12 weeks, 1 night a week, available, you might be able to get that camera course at either a high school or community college. Around here they are called the “7 o’clock series” (starting time). If they exist now and you don’t have the time (maybe two kids keep you busy – lol) it might be something to consider in the future.
I am loving all your pictures! It makes me really happy!
i’ve just started the 365days challenge about 6days ago. i hate taking photos of myself so this is a challenge. i’m enjoying your shots 🙂
I know exactly what you mean!! I always say yhte same type of thing. “If only I had discovered this passion for photography 10 years ago!” But, then I have to wonder if I had turned this love into work would it have always been this much fun??
You’re photography is wonderful! What type of camera did you get?? Margo
