Counting down on Idol

Tonight’s American Idol was pretty good, even though I wish Chris was still there.

Spoilers ahoy!

Elliott – I have a bad feeling that Elliott will leave tomorrow which is unfortunate because I would love to see a Taylor/Elliott finale. I think he has a phenomenal voice and the only reason he may not make it through is because he doesn’t often do songs that are well known so a lot of young kids voting are probably thinking “what the hell is this?” He is amazing and even if he gets the boot, his career is only starting. He really IS a funky white guy.

Katharine – I got over her weeks ago when she started majorly sucking. She bombed last week and the week before that was even worse when she MURDERED my favorite Phil Collins song ever. This week she had one moment of glory that might save her because “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was bone-chillingly beautiful and I was in awe. But her other two songs were ech. I think her biggest problem is that although she loves blues, she’s just too young and fresh for singing blues. Every once in a blue moon you get someone like Joss Stone who is really young and sings songs that are technically way too old for her and she pulls it off because she makes it believable, but Katharine is not Joss Stone.

Taylor – He blew me away this week (what else is new right?). Pulling Paula up to dance was brilliant, using a judge as a prop! I loved every second of each performance. He’s a true natural singer and performer and I still hope that he wins because he deserves it. He’s fun to watch and I could definitely see listening to his CD in my living room.

Although I never watch the results show because they overlap with Lost (I have my priorities), I do flip over in the last minute or two to see who is going home. I fear for Elliott, but I hope it’s Katharine. She still has a bright future ahead of her with people who can help her pick the right songs to sing, but I want Taylor and Elliott standing on the stage next week. Here’s hoping.

  1. I could have written that blog entry. I would love to see Elliott stick around (to be beaten by Taylor, of course, but still). Katharine has been way too inconsistent. I like Elliott, but I think he was missing the ‘entertainer’ part of his personality and that it’s just started showing through recently (too litte, too late?). Also the song choice thing. I like to hear him sing, but the audience is probably having a hard time identifying with the songs.
