Weekends have changed, and a request

When I used to work in an office, weekends were exciting. They meant sleeping in, and if I wasn’t sleeping in it was because I was doing something really interesting. It meant eating breakfast in a diner, shopping, hanging out with friends, partying, maybe going to a bar, especially if George was playing.

Now weekends aren’t quite the same. You’d think they’d still be exciting, because I do work on stuff from home now but the joy of freelancing is that it all overlaps and I still have things to do on the weekends anyway. Plus, it’s not as carefree what with having kids.

On the other hand, Hayley is at school all week and although she’s home at a reasonable hour in the afternoon, she’s usually tired and a bit cranky, so weekends mean that I get to relax with both of my girls. It’s certainly not bad at all, it’s just different. I’m not sure where I was going with this, but I guess I’m just finding myself thinking of how different certain parts of my life are between now and more than five years ago. It makes me wonder how different things will be in another five years.

Here’s a request, one I think I do for most of these daily post exercises. I’d like to invite you to ask me a question or two. If there’s anything you’ve always wanted to know, go ahead and ask. Even if I’ve discussed it before, it may have been from before you were reading. If I’ve mentioned something and then neglected to update you on what came afterwards, let me know.

It will help fill the gaps of these daily postings!

  1. I love being able to ask questions! I read all the time but mostly lurk! :o)

Are the schools in Montreal all french? And if so does Hayley have issues with that? I’m considering a move to Quebec from Ontario but with 5 kids all in an English school I worry about them being able to adjust. We are in Ottawa and they do speak french but not all day everyday in school. Oh and by the way…your girls are adorable! :o)

  2. Yay! Let’s see. …What did you do before you were a Mom? And what kind of band is George in? Does he travel much?
I will try to think of more.

  3. You nearly de-lurked me with the de-lurk mojo campaign… but this time the potential to influence the direction of your (excellent) blog flushed me out from the shadows!
So- as well as the questions asked above, these suggestions partly just reflect my interests…

    – as a mum (we don’t have moms here in Australia) I am always eager to read postings about parenting, sleep, breastfeeding (are you still for Breanna?), especially opinions
    -food/recipes are always fun
-you obviously know lots about blogging with all your sites- tell us about blogging, how you get into it, etc.
-other blogs you like! (I found you from the carnival of family monthly summary)
-and I second the suggestion- what DID you do before you became sleep deprived in 2002???

    Thanks!

  4. Also forgot- your photos show lots of cool toys behind. My bub is a year younger than Breanna, so I’d always be interested to know what she likes to play with/read/watch!

  5. Hi, I really love your blog, stumbled upon it one day whilst reading pittwatch (love that too!).

Are you actually from Quebec or did you move there later in life?

Are you all bilingual? Most of the Canadians I know don’t speak hardly any French, apart from a couple of Quebecois who don’t speak much English, and refuse to call themselves Canadian! Seems to be a bit of a touchy subject!

Are you planning to have any more kids?

Sorry to be so nosy but you did say to ask you questions!

Keep up the good work, it’s a pleasure to read!

    Take care xx
