Tonight was Classic Rock week on Idol. I actually liked most of it. Spoilers lurk below for different time zones.

Melissa – “Alone”: You know, all this time I never saw what the judges did. I thought she was good but I didn’t see this big star potential they always yammered on about. Tonight I was blown away. She did such a great job and like Zack basically said, it was an effortless performance. She didn’t even have to try to be good, she just was.

Rex – “Turn the Page”: I liked the second half better than the first half but as it got going, I enjoyed it more and more. I don’t want him to win or anything but I definitely see the appeal. He’s a decent singer, he’s fun on stage, he has a lot of energy and presence, and I bet a lot of young girls are squealing all over Canada right now as they dial his vote number.

Casey – “I’ll Stand by You”: Ech. This was the one performance I wasn’t into at all. Admittedly, I have never really liked her and I also really don’t like the song in the first place, so it was a hard sell for me. She didn’t sing it badly but it just didn’t do it for me and I thought it was kind of boring.

Aaron – “Hot Blooded”: Like the judges said, total cheese. But it was good cheese. It was fun to watch and he sang it well. It’s just that it’s one of those cheesy rock songs. Regardless of the outcome, I think he’s going to go on to have a successful career.

Suzi – “Piece of my Heart”: Just about every season on either Canadian or American Idol, there’s someone who tries to sing this and just doesn’t pull it off. At all. FINALLY, someone sang it properly. She did a great job with it and I pretty much expected her to pull it off because it’s just her style. She rocks. Also, off topic but man is she ever beautiful. Who says punk isn’t pretty?

Josh – “Layla”: I think he could have picked a better song to sing just because I enjoy his voice but Layla just isn’t a good showcase-your-voice kind of song. That said, it was fun to watch and he performs well. Also, I frickin’ HATE the acoustic version of that song, I have always loved the original rocking version much better and so I was ecstatic that he chose that one. And I really liked the guitar at the end. I see Zack’s point about how that’s almost cheating, but I don’t think it’s much different than Jacob coming out in a full blue catsuit and full makeup to sing Bowie last year.

I don’t even know how to predict. I’ll guess the bottom three as being Casey, Josh, and maybe Aaron. I’d like to see Casey go home. It’s so hard to say though.
