Just some stuff

Apropos of nothing, at least as far as the rest of this entry is concerned, I have a very important observation to make. People (well, parents, mostly since no non-parent in their right mind would watch it) often complain about Caillou. Everyone mentions how incredibly whiney Caillou is and he drives them up the wall with it. True enough, Caillou is a bit whiney, though I’ve always said I find his friend Clementine to be worse. But, yes. I can see how Caillou is obnoxious.

HOWEVER, that being said, I would rather put on one of the Caillou DVDs and let it run for its entire two hours and listen to it with the volume jacked way up if it would mean that I would never ever have to listen to Angelina fuckin’ Ballerina again. That bitch is one big whinefest of a mouse. I haven’t seen such a big drama queen on television this side of Susan Lucci as Erica Kane on All My Children. Is that stupid mouse ever happy? Does she ever stop screeching and sobbing and flinging herself onto her bed to screech and sob into her pillows?

I’m so glad that Hayley is ambivalent about the show and the only reason we ever catch any of it is because we get the last little bit before Franklin comes on. Otherwise I would have to seriously consider blowing up the television.

To offset my irate feelings towards Angelina, here are the girls, all dressed up. Besides attending a BBQ on Saturday, which was a lot of fun, we also went to a baptism for the daughters of our friends, so Hayley and Breanna were all spiffed up for church. Never mind the fact that they spent little time IN the church due to Breanna’s loud protesting and Hayley’s penchant for running up to the front to see what was going on. At least they both looked pretty – when they were inside AND when we were lurking outside the side door!

Hayley

Breanna

You KNOW it’s a special occasion when I take the time to bother with putting shoes on Breanna’s feet.

  1. *whispering*
    I like Caillou…
I think he’s cute and quite ‘real’, i also find the plots are all right, like the episode where he finds a dead animal and is all stressed out about growing up.

  2. My daughter doesn’t really watch Calliou. She is obsessed with Noggin. Anyway, I wanted to say how adorable your children are!

  3. My mom, who teaches kindergarten, says, “I used to have a girl in my class who loved two things in life: Angelina Ballerina and pretending she was Spirit the horse. She was the only kindergartner I ever had who pretended she was a something else all the time–in this case, a horse. She had a high whiny voice, and whenever my chalk screeched on the chalkboard, her voice and my chalk sounded exactly the same. So maybe people with whiny voices and Angelina Ballerina have some sort of connection. Unfortunately, she was still pretending she was Spirit when she was in second grade.”

  4. Most of the children’s shows drive me crazy. I;ve never seen the ones you’re talking about but have you ever seen Sagwa the Siamese cat? Super annoying, probably because it’s translated so it ends up sounding all manic like a dub of the original Iron Chef. I admit that I like it a little though. I have to be careful because the songs get stuck in my head and I end up walking around singing them.

We’ve got the whole wide world in our yards to exploooooore!

  5. When Cody was little he loved Calliou, I thought it was comical because everyone thought Cody looked like him. LOL

However, I don’t let Daniel watch him now even though we have the videos because Calliou does nothing but whine for things he wants. Considering Daniel immitates everything he watches, no thanks!

    The girls are beautiful!

  6. I hate Angelina Ballerina!!! Whiny little thing! Actually, I am bugged by several of those shows on Sprout. Like that one show, Make Way for Noddy. Have you ever seen it? Every single episode is about STEALING. Every single one! Or Jay Jay the Jet Plane? Freakiest looking things EVER, with their weirdo poorly animated faces.

We just watch a lot of Sesame Street and Baby Einstein!

  7. Personally I think Caillou is kind of cute, but as you know we had to curtail Alyssa’s watching it because she started to whine like Caillou all the time and it got OLD. She still likes to watch it on occassion and I really don’t mind it. I bet Tristan would like it and he probably wouldn’t pick up on the whining since he’s not as verbal at this point.

Alyssa has seen Angelina Ballerina a few times but it’s not something we watch a lot of, but we do read the books (big favorites around here).

Our favorite still is JoJo. I like that everyone is nice to one another. It’s amusing enough for us to watch with them without getting annoyed and it always has a nice message. Unfortunately Alyssa is starting to outgrow JoJo, but Tristan LOVES it now.

  8. I HATE that show (angelina Ballerina). HATE IT! Luckilly my boys didn’t like it either. The way they talk, the voices, are just grating. That’s usually when I would tell them, ok, no more cartoons!
