That Baby CD & That Baby DVD are That Good
Every parent has known the horror of realizing that they’re walking down the street and humming the theme song to Barney. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind Barney that much, but I don’t want to sing the songs in my down time, you know?
We’re all music fans here. We listen to music a lot throughout the day, and you know what? My kids’ favorite things to listen to have always been songs I listen to as well, not just children’s music. When I had a chance, thanks to Parent Bloggers Network, to test out and review That Baby CD and That Baby DVD, I was all over it. It features music and video that will appeal to kids but the songs are classics that were originally done by artists such as The Pretenders, Fleetwood Mack, Joni Mitchell, and more. The songs are re-done in an acoustic cover.
The CD was definitely a big hit. The songs aren’t annoying so of course *I* loved them, but because my kids are used to a variety of music anyway, they enjoyed the songs as well. Both girls were dancing around to the music and after a few plays, my oldest even sang along to a couple of parts where she remembered the words. I love the That Baby CD because besides being enjoyable in general, it’s also a great way to introduce kids to music we listened to when we were younger (did I just date myself there?).
When I tried out the That Baby DVD, I wasn’t sure what to expect, as far as reactions go. Both my kids prefer actual movies with stories as opposed to videos accompanying music, so I half expected to see that they would lose interest. It turned out that the DVD provided whimsical imagery that actually did hold their attention. My youngest was especially intrigued and aside from enjoying the songs, she also had fun shouting out everything she saw on the DVD (she does that a lot these days).
Overall, both That Baby CD and That Baby DVD are a great addition to your family music and DVD collections. There’s definitely a time and place for singing about an itsy-bitsy spider and that farmer in a dell - what would childhood be without actual children’s songs. I love when my oldest comes home from school, singing kiddy songs. But when you’re tired of hearing those songs over and over (and over and OVER) again, you can put on some songs that won’t make you want to stab your eardrums with a pen. Then you can all enjoy some music together.
And if you find yourself humming “Pony Boy” while you’re at the cash register in the grocery store, you won’t have to be so embarrassed.

And now, as soon as Clifford is over, I’m popping That Baby CD in the stereo again. We could use a little Fleetwood Mac around here this morning!
