KINeSYS Performance Sunscreen
When it comes to sunscreen I am notoriously bad about remembering to use it on myself but I am neurotic about making sure both my kids are coated in it before we go out unless it’s the evening or first thing in the morning. Last year we used a spray sunscreen but when we ran out it was near the end of the season so when we saw there were no sprays at the store, we bought one of the lotions. I don’t want to waste it so we’ve been using it this summer, but honestly I hate it. It’s drippy and goopy and it leaves my hands feeling greasy. It also takes forever to dry so as soon as we hit the park, both girls end up looking like they may have been living on the streets what with all the sand and dust and general funk that sticks to them because of the lotion.
Parent Bloggers Network asked if any parents would be interested in trying KINeSYS Performance Sunscreen. I would have said no since I already had sunscreen but when I read that they claim it is oil-free, PABA-free, alcohol-free, AND quick drying, I was immediately interested after all.
When the package of sample sunscreen arrived, I saw I had been treated to one kids’ formula in lotion format, one regular spay version, one regular lotion version, and a solid tube format which is geared for areas like lips, ears, and noses. All four were 30 SPF and water/sweat resistant. Since it’s been hot lately, sweat resistant is good.
I got the package in the morning so I tried the kids’ version that very day. Although it was a lotion instead of a spray, it really did dry quickly. By the time I was doing a second arm, the first arm was already bone dry. When I was done, I didn’t feel like I had stuck my hands in a pot of grease because the lotion really isn’t greasy or oily at all! And after park time was over, the kids were still dirty but they were “normal kid” dirty, not “I coated myself in oil then rolled in the sand” dirty. That was a nice change!
I remembered - for once! - to protect my own skin too and I used the spray. It’s not an aerosol spray, it’s a pump, so I still felt like I had to rub it in to make sure I got all my skin, but again it was not greasy and slimy, and it dried quickly enough that I didn’t feel gross afterward.
I did try the solid too and although I probably wouldn’t bother to get it separately (and would just use the regular sunscreen like I normally do), it did make it easier to get the ears without dripping anything inside. I didn’t care for it on my lips, but that’s not necessarily an accurate reflection on the product because I don’t even really like to wear lipstick - I just don’t like anything on my lips at all.
Overall, these sunscreens worked great. The most important thing in a sunscreen is protection against the harmful rays of the sun, of course, but once you have that basic need taken care of, it’s really nice to have a sunscreen that doesn’t feel like it’s still layered on your body an hour after the fact. Once you apply sunscreen to your kids and have it dry that quickly and without a residue, it won’t be very appealing to go back to your average sunscreen, believe me!
