This was a fantastic Mother’s Day! In fact, I enjoyed this Mother’s Day even more than last year. This time last year, I was still recovering from the C-section, and I was sleep-deprived and still learning the ropes and what it means to be a mother. I doubt very much that my new role had fully sunk in and that I really even felt like a true mom.
A year makes a huge difference. I’m not (usually) as sleep-deprived as I was in those early months, and now I feel like a mom more than anything else. Plus, I have really gotten to know this fantastic little girl I have been blessed with!
Mother’s Day celebrations really started on Thursday when the daycare gave out mugs to all the mommies. On one side is this:
On the other side is Claire’s hand print, but it doesn’t come out well on the camera, so you’ll have to take my word for it. And inside were Hershey’s hugs and kisses
And the pretty girl who gave it to me…
We were also blessed with some really beautiful weather this weekend. The forecast has been calling for showers on Saturday, but when I woke up all I could see were blue skies and sunshine. It did cloud in later on in the afternoon, but we had sunshine for most of the day.
Neal cooked us delicious omelettes for lunch, and since he would not be here for supper on Mother’s Day itself as he goes into the base before supper on Sundays, he made us Masala pizza for supper on Saturday – it was great!
While Claire napped in the afternoon and Neal did some homework, I went out and did some major weeding in the front flower garden. There is still plenty to do, but it doesn’t resemble a jungle quite so much. I had planned to go out again today, but it just didn’t happen; hopefully I can get it cleared up enough though that I can buy some flowers next weekend and stick them in. I was delighted to see that my supposed “annual” Mums are coming up again this year! These same ones keep popping up, which is fantastic! I may not be able to keep a rhododendron alive – despite that fact that pretty much every second person around here has one! – but I can grow me some annual Mums as if they’re perennials!
As for one of the reasons why I didn’t get out in the garden today? Well, I did throw supper in the slow cooker and cleaned up a bit and wanted to relax on the back deck for awhile, but it was also because it seems that a weekend would not be a weekend if someone wasn’t sick, and it’s Claire’s turn again.
She might not be actually sick. She had a fever off and on today, and her nose is running like a faucet and she is incredibly tired, but I’ve been suspecting a tooth for a few days. She had a mysterious fever earlier this week that went away, and her cheeks have been red off and on. When I brushed her teeth tonight before bed, I stuck my finger in and felt around, and found that a tooth has, indeed, cut through her gums – just not on the side I thought it would be.
It was a lovely Mother’s Day anyway, and if nothing else, her exhaustion meant that I got to have some extra cuddle time with her. She also gave me this adorable card –
And she also gave me this mug I really wanted, with a bunch of pictures of her and us as a family. That will be coming with me to work tomorrow!
Claire really is the funniest, and most lovable little girl I know. If I am a good mom, it’s only because I have a wonderful daughter who makes it so easy.

Sounds like a great Mother’s Day weekend. Claire is just so cute!
