All about it all

Me:

Just meI'm Sherry. I'm 30 (when did that happen?), and I live in the dreaded suburbs of Montreal up here in Canada. I'm currently a stay-at-home mom who is looking for part time work in the evenings. I'm by no means a photographer in the conventional sense; I'm merely a photographer the way that everyone and her mother has become a photographer thanks to the advances of digital cameras. I'm far from professional and have never even taken a photography course. I try to learn from experience and by checking out other photologs to find inspiration and tips.

The main reason I take pictures is to document my life. Every life has a story to tell and I like to tell mine with a combination of words and images. Ever since I first purchased a Kodak DC3200 (since discontinued) in January of 2001, my digital camera has been just about permanently attached to my right hand. I like to take it everywhere because you never know when inspiration will hit.

I can't promise breathtaking photography but I can promise a single slice of life shared with you.

There's more about me here.

I also have a weblog, journal, knitlog, recipe log, media log, and a portal.

The site:

I originally went by Point and Shoot since I have a point and shoot camera and that was pretty much all I did anyway. Unfortunately I don't foresee getting a nice digital SLR camera anytime soon (sad but true, unless I win the lottery or someone gifts me with one), but I find that rather than just doing a point and shoot, I think first, and then try to shoot. I get a lot of inspiration from some great photoblogs out there and I hope to keep improving as time goes by.

The current name, Pleiades has nothing to do with photography and everything to do with my intense love of astronomy - you may have noticed the domain name yes? My domain has nothing to do with the terrible television show and again, everything to do with astronomy. Andromeda is my favorite galaxy. As for this photolog, I have spent many hours of my life staring at the Pleiades (also known as The Seven Sisters) so I felt it was a fitting name.

I would like to promise that this will be updated daily but it is doubtful that will come to be. Life gets in the way sometimes, but I will update as regularly as I can.

The stuff:

Some of the earlier photos were taken with a Kodak DC3200. When I first bought it, I thought it was The Bomb. It quickly became obsolete and was discontinued. As more and more people bought sleek new cameras, mine sort of resembled the early cell phones in comparison to the latest models - boxy, clunky, and blah. Still, it served me well for four years, even at 1 lowly megapixel.

Pictures taken from mid-January 2005 onward were taken with the HP PS320, which I acquired after my Kodak broke. It's still only 2.1 megapixels, but really that's enough for me for now since it's not like I get paid for this.

I use PixelPost to power my photolog and I can not praise it enough - it's simple to install, simple to use, and has a great support forum.

In a perfect world I could take a picture and post it as-is, but honestly, even professionals process their images until they look the way they want them to. I generally avoid filters unless specified in the details, but I usually use Photoshop to adjust brightness, contrast, and sharpness in my images.
