Nosy neighbor

First of all, apropos of nothing, today I learned to be careful what you wish for. All day long Hayley and Breanna were arguing and fighting so I was thrilled when I finally convinced them to play with Breanna’s new dinosaur set from my sister. They divided the dinos between them, sat down… and proceeded to pretend that all six dinosaurs were arguing with each other. Sometimes you just can’t win.

*******

I have a habit, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. If it’s getting (or is already) dark out and I’m out walking with the dog I can not help but peek into people’s windows if their lights are on and their blinds or curtains are open. I mean I don’t go right up and cup my hands around my eyes, peering right through the glass. I also don’t stop on the sidewalk and stare in all creeptacular or anything.

However, I do glance in as I walk past. I can’t help it. I don’t know how NOT to do it. I also do it from the car, though it’s obviously harder to do from a moving vehicle. Stopped at a red light works better.

I need to point out I’m not trying to see any of the people who are inside the room. I’m just looking at the decor and the layout. This is especially true when I’m walking around our complex. We have multiple buildings that are all the same so I know which units are the same size and layout as ours so I like when I can get a quick glimpse of how someone else has set up and decorated the same living room that we have.

I swear, I’m not trying to be creepy and no one in my neighborhood will have a need to slap a restraining order on me. In all honesty, I’m just looking for ideas because I’m tired of my own living space!

Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this.

  1. There must be something in the air because my girls have been arguing all day too! I hope it’s not a sign of what’s to come this winter.

And no, you’re not the only peeker 😉

  2. You can ask yousefl another question rather than worrying about right or wrong; “Does it harm people when you look inside their room with an intention to learn something?”

I trust you got some ideas?

  3. Nothing wrong with peeking. I’ve always done the same thing because of the same reasons. The way I look at it, if they don’t want anyone to see in, they’d close their blinds/curtains.

  4. I have to say I’m shocked. I would never peek in a window because it has been left in a state that allows a clear view of the decor.
(Is anyone buying this total lie?)

  7. I do it as well. We’re visiting my family & their community has all theses walking paths that run behind people’s homes so you can see what they did with their yard space & I love seeing and comparing all the different combinations of things people chose from the community bylaws and builder options.

  8. I have to say that I don’t….growing up in NE Philly, not many houses are situated in such a way as to allow a view of the interior from the street….I tend to look more at their yards or the cars going past on the street 😉

  9. Guess it runs in our genes, because I do the same thing when out for an evening walk. I like to see what people have done for decor, but I also like to get a brief glimpse into the lives of other people. Probably similar to why I like reading other people’s blogs 🙂

  10. SOOOOO not the only one! I do this too and often feel ashamed to admit it! I just can’t help it – it’s like peeking inside another life which is kind of a luxury when you work from home and don’t have much social interaction during the day. I am particularly bad around the holidays when I want to peek at holiday trimmings!
