Pot? Kettle!

Somehow I wound up stuck watching part of the political debate for Canada’s upcoming election in January. I watched it until I started dozing off, but one thing in particular made me laugh with a big snort out loud.

Of course the first question was regarding equal rights for gay marriages. The NDP, the Liberals, and the Bloc Quebecois are all for gay rights whereas Stephen Harper, the leader for the Conservatives tries to make it sound like he’s all for the individuals but that he doesn’t stand for gay marriage since it challenges what marriage really is.

ANYWAY. Gay marriage is already recognized under the Supreme court here in Canada. Harper was debating it anyway, but the three other party leaders mentioned that it’s taking a step backwards to worry about it because it’s already gone forward.

And then Gilles Duceppe, leader of the Bloc Quebecois elaborated on that by saying that he doesn’t see the need to be a society that must constantly re-visit an issue every six months when the issue has already been decided by a majority.

Which is pretty damn funny coming from a party that constantly tries to bring about a referendum to see whether Quebec should separate from Canada, despite the fact that a majority has always said no.

Pot, kettle, black!

(For what it’s worth, when election time rolls around, I think I’m going to flip the bird to the damn liberals since I’m fed up of their backpedalling and I’m voting NDP. They won’t win but the more NDP representatives we get, the better because they’re really the only ones I can stomach anymore.)

And that right there is possibly the most I have EVER written about politics on this website.

  1. Heehee I am loving that Duceppe said that! I didn’t watch, but I’m sure it’ll be rehashed ad nauseum on Radio One all weekend.

  2. I think we can only benefit from more NDP representation. I’m pretty convinced this next round will deliver us another minority government – probably close to what we have. However, when there is good NDP representation, the policies tend to be pulled a bit more to the left (where I like to see them 😉 ). Not that I can do anything about it – I just moved here a couple of years ago. 🙂

  3. I actually really like when you write about politics here. So you have my vote to continue writing more about them if the mood srtikes you.

What’s the diff b/t the Liberals and NDP, btw?

  4. I want to vote NDP too this time but, Liza Frulla our L rep is not so popular right now and I’m afraid of the Bloc winning in our riding so, I’m kinda torn. There’s no freaking way I’m voting C though!

  5. We’re going to vote NDP or Green party, because the guy running for the Green party is Cap’n John fron the crazy 2nd hand bookstore I wrote about. 😀

  6. Gilles Duceppe cracks me up, I don’t know why, but he does. I like to watch the debates just so I can listen to him completely mangle the english language. I always imagine him muttering, “anglais cochon” under his breath 😉

I generally like Jack Layton but I was going to go through the TV and smack him is he said, “Ed Broadbent” one more time. Hell, I wish ole Eddy was running cause I am a big fan of his but it felt like a whole lot of name dropping to me.

And speaking of dropping, Steven Harpy, err Harper should do us all a big favour and drop out of politics and go live somewhere else. I’d say he should move to the US but I wouldn’t wish him on my worst enemy, let alone on our neighbours to the south.

I’m torn between the NDP and the Green Party. They’ll have to work at getting my vote.

    Ahhh politics, fun stuff huh?

  7. I voted NDP last time, and I think I will again this time around. I hate the idea of voting for a party that I don’t believe will win anyway, but lately I’ve noticed A LOT of NDP signs up here in Halifax – which is a city in a province run by Conservatives. So maybe there is hope!
