I could have been famous

It’s a shame that although I’ve lost most of the weight, I have that post-birth floppy stomach that should never ever be seen in hip huggers and crop tops, and it’s too bad that I have the traditional new mom dark circles under my eyes. Because you see, Breanna is such an expert at nursing that my milk was starting to come in by the second night, and was in fully the day I came home from the hospital, and these days I have so much milk that I could definintely be a contender for a Hooters poster girl. Alas.

Seriously though. I have enough milk to feed my baby, your baby, the baby down the street, the baby that my hospital roommate kept neglecting to feed (7 minutes each breast the ENTIRE NIGHT from 11 pm until 7 am!), and all the babies in the third world country of your choice. It’s a good thing, obviously, but ouch. It makes those nice long 3-hour stretches of sleep that she gets in two or three times a day/night a little, er, uncomfortable towards the end.

  1. Okay, good! Can you bottle some for me? I need a drink and plan on hitting the bar on the way home from the hospital. 😉 lol jk

    Glad everything’s going well!

  2. I’ve been tossing around the thought of breast feeding this baby, even if for a little while anyway. But the whole concept of how to do it and what to do is so darn foreign to me, I don’t know. It’s a bit daunting. So, don’t mind my ignorance in asking, if you get full like that and the baby is sleeping, can you pump some off or do you not bottle feed at all even with breast milk? just curious for future reference. =)

  3. You can put cabbage leaves in your bra to ease the discomfort, change the leaves as they ‘wilt’. Also you can relieve a bit of the pain by expressing some, why not keep some in the freezer, just in case too? Just trying to give you some ideas. Congrats on the new baby, she is beautiful! 🙂

  4. Congrats again Sherry! My new little guy went on a feed fest last night and after not being allowed to bf him for 48 hours, only pump, let me tell ya I could’ve used the extra milk!

  5. Oh man, this is bringing back memories and making my boobs tingle. 🙂

Yeah, Felicity, you can express some off, save it or not, but I never used bottles at all with the last couple. I never went anywhere. 🙂

  6. you gotta dream BIG, Sherri: It’s never too late to get your internet porn career going 😉

  7. Kim – that’s okay, it fits with the porn career!

Felicity – you can express when you’re engorged but you have to be careful not to OVER express because then you send the message to your body that it needs to produce even more milk which will create a vicious cycle. Expressing a bit helps relieve you. Of course, if you’re pumping for the sake of bottles you’ll have to express as much as possible. I did it from time to time but it was just easier to feed her myself. They also suggest waiting until 6 weeks to avoid nipple confusion.

  8. Ah, I envy you. I never seemed to have the supply that I had with Alyssa with Tristan. I think it’s because I didn’t have uninterrupted time to feed Tristan. After all, Alyssa was only 2 months older than Tristan is now when he was born!!! I can’t believe that!!! Ack! I must have been crazy!

  9. Ah, I remember the exploding boobies phase. Glad to hear you got an expert nurser on your hands to take care of it :).

  10. Random commentry from a random person.

I came across your blog by accident but at 38 weeks+ and desperate to deliver reading your stories made me feel better, well until the acid reflux and Braxton Hicks kicked in…

Thanks, from the other side of the ocean
