Why I love Michael Moore

I don’t think I’ve ever made it a secret that I dislike George Bush and that I disagree with him on many political standpoints, I just don’t bring it up much since I’m not American and have my own country’s government to think about. But I’m sure most people know I’m pretty damn liberal and don’t like Bush at all.

Which is why I love Michael Moore’s open letter to the president.

You can read it right here, or read it on the official website.

A glimpse into the future

This morning, Hayley and I were curled up on the bed watching “Peep” on television. She was lying right against me when the baby kicked.

Hayley: HAHAHA! The baby kicked me in the bum!
Sherry: I know, that’s funny.
Hayley: (brief moment of concentration) HAHA!
Sherry: What?
Hayley: I farted on the baby.

So that’s what it will be like, yes?

Canadian Idol babbling

I know there are only a handful of you who watch Canadian Idol since most of you are in the U.S., but for those who do, Zack Werner wrote a great entry
in his weblog in regards to people calling him mean and whatnot, especially after this week.

There’s a reason Zack is my favorite judge on the show. He doesn’t sugar coat anything and he doesn’t bullshit anyone, and he doesn’t do the Paula Abdul “oh but you look beautiful” garbage which is useless in a singing competition. He tells it like it is, and 95% of the time I agree with him.

(Yes, he has a weblog and yes I read it. Duh. I’m a dork, I know.)

Sugar, sugar

(Good move on my part, now I’ll have that song stuck in my head for days.)

I have to go for my glucose screening test tomorrow, and I also need my Rhogam shot since I’m RH-negative (short version for those who don’t know: If you’re negative, your body can deal with the first baby but any subsequent pregnancy is seen as a foreign virus and is attacked by your immune system. Or something like that. The Rhogam takes care of it.).

I’m not looking forward to it. Oh, the drink isn’t that bad. It’s just very orange-flavored and mildly fizzy, but I’m not going until the afternoon so at least I don’t have to drink anything fizzy at 7:30 in the morning. I don’t care about the blood draw they do because needles don’t bother me*. I don’t care about the Rhogam because, again, needles are no big deal and the shot doesn’t hurt, especially when compared to sciatic nerve pain.

I’m just not looking forward to it simply because last time I screened positive with fairly high numbers, made myself somewhat crazy by looking on the label of EVERYTHING to see what I would be able to eat if I was indeed diabetic, and then nearly passed out at the three hour test the week after. Normally I don’t faint from having blood taken, but between fasting from midnight onwards, drinking a beverage with an even higher level of glucose, and having my blood taken three times while still fasting, I had to be sent to the nurse’s lounge to lie down. I’m really worried about having to go through all of that again.

Last time I didn’t know you could eat before the one hour screen, so I got up and went in on an empty stomach. I’m hoping that screwed up the results and that was why I screened so high. This time I know that I can eat as little as five minutes prior to the test, as long as I don’t eat or drink anything once it starts. I plan to eat a good breakfast and a good lunch so that my blood sugar is not wonky in any way.

Honestly, if anything I have LOW blood sugar. I shake when I don’t eat enough or if I don’t get enough protein. I seem to have a lot of symptoms that go with hypoglycemia even though I’ve tested negative for that more than once. The idea of having high blood sugar seems odd to me.

Anyway, here’s hoping it goes well and I don’t have to go back next week.

*I have no problems with needles as far as my own body. When they show needles on television or in movies, it really bothers me. I have no idea why, you’d think if anything that it would be the other way around.
