Musical

The radio is on right now. It’s a classic rock station.

Hayley: Is this music I liked when I was a baby?
Sherry: No, I don’t think so.
Hayley: Is it music Daddy likes?
Sherry: Yes, most of it.
Hayley: Do he like it better than the other crappy music?
Sherry: Um, yes.
Hayley: The crappy music like Duran Duran and the Buffy songs. But we like it.
Sherry: Yes we do.

Must stop thinking about it

I swear to god, I’m trying to watch “Lost” (and by the way, I would love it if it becomes a regular thing for it to be on at 9 pm instead of 8 so I don’t miss the beginning during the bedtime marathon; this has been great), trying SO hard to concentrate, and all I can think about is how willingly I would commit any number of crimes as long as I was rewarded with a giant heaping plate of Cantonese Chow Mein. Not the cheap shit from the pretend Chinese places, I mean the real deal from Chinatown. I can taste it in my imagination but that’s just not cutting it.

So.hungry.

Is it edible?

I’ve reached that annoying stage in pregnancy where I’m constantly hungry but my stomach is really squished up so I can’t eat too much at one time. This all means that I eat frequently, to the point that sometimes it feels like I never stop, and when I tally it all up, it’s a surprise to see how much I’ve ingested.

A prime example happened on Monday night. We had a bunch of fresh vegetables left over from the party and I knew if I didn’t do something with them they’d wind up forgotten and rotten in the bottom of the fridge. I cut up a bunch of red pepper strips, some mushrooms, washed some baby carrots, and mixed the last of the sour cream with onion soup mix to make a dip. I set those out on the table to eat with supper and I ate quite a bit, especially the mushrooms.

Supper itself was corn on the cob, which was surprisingly good this late in the season, and so I ate two pieces. We ate it with Sweet and Sour Meatballs on rice. By the time supper was over, I was pretty full.

I did the dishes and then while Hayley had a pre-bed snack, I munched on a cheese stick.

After she went to bed, there was nothing on television that I felt like watching so I hung out at my desk, catching up on weblogs and eating more of the vegetables and dip plate (and this time finished off most of the mushrooms and a lot of carrots). At 10 pm it was time for my Chai tea (an easy way for me to get my calcium since I hate milk on its own but get 2/3 of a cup just by making the tea; it’s also been saving me from nightly acid reflux so I hate to miss it) and I can’t drink tea all by itself, so I had a little piece of chocolate cake. When I headed for bed at 11:30, my stomach felt very empty so I ate one more cheese stick so that I wouldn’t wake up starving at 2 am.

After all that, when I woke up at 8:00 the next morning I was so hungry that I couldn’t wait to make my bagel.

I know they say a pregnant woman is eating for two, but honestly, sometimes I feel like I’m eating for a family of four.

Revenge

If Hayley doesn’t stop kicking me in the stomach (accidentally I mean; she isn’t hauling off and kicking me like a soccer ball because she hates me or anything), I swear the first thing this baby is going to do when she gains some form of muscle control is kick Hayley right in the head for revenge.

Hayley's birthday party

Whew, what a busy weekend. I spent Friday and Saturday cleaning and organizing for Hayley’s birthday party which was on Saturday evening. We weren’t able to do a big dinner thing like we had before, so we decided to start it at 6, after supper, and we had munchies like chips, crackers, cheese, pate, veggies and dip, fruit and chocolate sauce, and dessert things like cake, cookies, and muffins. It was a lot of fun, even though I had to take a bath last night just because my lower body was aching so much after everything I did.

I put up a bunch of pictures over here if you’d like to feel like you were there.

How to pass a questionable day

It was supposed to rain here today and it kept getting really dark outside so I was reluctant to go out. That meant I was attempting to come up with an interesting way to pass the time for Hayley (I could have done more cleaning for the party but that doesn’t count as interesting to her, plus it will just get messed up by tomorrow or Saturday anyway).

Yesterday we got a big box in the mail with a present from my sister for Hayley’s birthday so of course she had been having a blast playing in the box. Last night we had company and they had a big stack of those envelopes that you get to make your deposits at bank machines. Hayley was pretending they were letters in the mail today, so I got out the construction paper and glue, and we made a mail box together. Then I cut a little slot and a door and gave her an old purse and she’s now the cutest mail carrier I ever saw.

Cutest mail carrier ever
